We don’t become paramedics for the money. The paycheck is not the attraction to this field. Here in Greater Boston, hourly rates for paramedics are around $18-$28. There are no commissions or bonuses, and there are very few promotion opportunities.
I’m now 28 and on track to be retired, with a paid-off mortgage, by 38. I will save aggressively until 36, then use the next two years to take care of my remaining mortgage balance. After that, I will be able to live off of savings.
